2 - Gertrude Käsebier


The Red Man. *1852 – †1934. American Pictorialism.

Käsebier started as a portrait painter. Well known for her portraits of Native Americans and documenting scenes of motherhood. Published several pictures in the early editions of Camera Work, which was published and founded by Alfred Stieglitz. After a long lasting cooperation with Stieglitz, she was one of the founders of the Pictorial Photographers of America group.

1 – Don Hong-Oai

Raised in Vietnam, fled to California in 1979 and lived for the rest of his life in San Francisco's Chinatown. He went back to China several times to take new negatives. Don Hong-Oai was one of the last well known pictorialist photographers. His work was influenced by traditional motifs of Chinese painting.
